Frequently Asked Questions

Got any coupon codes?

You bet. Use code "TAKEPAUSE" to take $10 off your first box.

When will my first box arrive?

In two to four weeks. We keep a small inventory on hand, but we do not want to commit to rushed shipping lest we commit to an inferior product. In many cases, we have to find the best item for you after we receive your survey. We ask that you allow us some time to make sure you're satisfied. That said, we ship nearly all first boxes within 14 days of subscription.

Can I tell you exactly what I want and have you find it for me?

Nope. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to take personal requests. Instead, we hope that part of the fun is never knowing what you're going to get. Unlike other fashion forward subscription services, we don't claim to solve the problem of getting dressed in the morning. If anything, we want to make it more difficult by delivering one-of-a-kind, awesome items that can be worn twelve different ways.

Can't I just get this stuff on my own?

Maybe. Do you spend hours every week at  estate sales, consignment shops, thrift stores, and garage sales, and take with you a well-developed knowledge of clothing design, brand, and manufacturing history? If you do, then eventually you might find the kind of clothing you'll receive in every Comma. Send us an email and tell us what you find! We'd love to connect.

What if I don't like what you sent?

We handle unsatisfied customers on a case by case basis. If you're totally unsatisfied, we accept returns and offer a full refund. If you like some things but not all, we'll figure out a solution that works. Sometimes, that means an exchange. Or, you can pass the item on to a friend and we'll make up for it on the next shipment. In order to keep our initial costs down, we do not offer unlimited exchanges like some other clothing subscription services. Ultimately, we hope that you're willing to take a risk--customers often tell us how the piece they initially disliked received countless compliments.

Should I subscribe if I prefer my shirts to measure 19.25" across the chest and will accept no deviation whatsoever?

No. While we hope the pieces we ship fit well enough to wear confidently and comfortably, we can't promise the precision of custom tailor.

Is there a Comma for womenswear?

Not explicitly. Our expertise is in menswear, and that's the only thing we feel comfortable curating. But only the clothes are gendered; our customers can identify anyway they please. If you feel that items traditionally labeled as menswear have a place in your wardrobe, then sign right up and we'll put together a package that works.

How do I know what I'm getting?

Every Comma contains a personalized note describing the contents. We know that part of the fun of wearing vintage is knowing the stories behind it. We pass them on to you, but hope you'll have your own to write in the coming years. We specialize in American-made clothing from legendary brands. Check out some examples on our blog.

What's it worth?

At traditional resale--say at any halfway decent vintage shop--it'll cost more than you paid for it. While we hope you're not subscribing in order to resell goods, you likely could. Select Commas contain heritage items that far out-value the subscription cost.

Is it clean?

We clean everything we ship to our best judgement, but make no guarantee that it will meet your personal standard. Machine washing a denim jacket, after all takes away the contrast of its fades. Sweaters can be ruined. Of course, t-shirts can regain their original brightness after a good wash, and button-ups regain the fabric's true qualities when hang dried on the line. All this to say that we prepare each item of clothing as we see fit, but cannot guarantee it meets your own personal standard. Should you have any concerns, we encourage you to clean items to your preference before wearing them. That said, we never ship anything that we ourselves wouldn't wear out of the box,
